What happened?
On March 18, 2024, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) for the review of the Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind LLC’s Application for the proposed Atlantic Shores North Project.
What does this mean?
Receiving the NOI kicks off the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) submitted by Atlantic Shores for Project North, which is a key step in the federal permitting process required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
What’s next?
A series of open houses, both virtual and in-person, will be held by BOEM between April 3 – 16, 2024, along with a formal 45-day public comment period that will be open from March 18, 2024 – May 2, 2024.
Why is providing public comment so important?
Comments received from the public will be used to inform the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). This is an opportunity for the public, community members, and all interested parties to advise BOEM on the resources of concern or subject areas for consideration and environmental study.
Join an open house meeting hosted by BOEM to learn more about the environmental review process, participate in a Q&A with BOEM subject matter experts, and understand how to submit public comments.
